There will come a moment when you need to change your light fixtures to something a little more modern. Or, you may find the urge to add in a ceiling fan. This is a rather easy task to do, so long as take your time and don’t try to be a hero about it.
Finding the circuit breaker and switching it off is better than hitting the power switch, especially if you have an older home. Then, remove the existing fixture and any fittings attaching it to the ceiling. All you should have left is a black wire, a white wire and a copper one (called the ground). Follow the mounting instructions provided with the packaging of your new fixtures. Then, connect the black wires and white wires to the corresponding wires and trim back any unnecessary wire with pliers. Finally, screw the ground onto the fixture mounting bracket using a grounding screw, then finish assembling and attaching your new fitting.
