The Hero4 is for all aspiring photographers who have not yet gone pro. At it's essence, the Hero4 Silver is the last year's Hero3+ Black - which was recognized by many reviewers as the best action camera of the year.

The camera shoots 2.7K at a full 30fps at 1080p @ 60, and 720p at 120. Besides a completely redesigned interface, it also features an greatly improved audio system and a Night Photo/Night Lapse, and perhaps best of all - Bluetooth has been added to the Wi-Fi.

We got to extend a hearty "well done" to the GoPro engineering team; the Hero4 Silver is the same size as the last year's Hero3+ even though they added an incredibly sharp touchscreen on the back. While other action cams feature touch screens (think of the Drift Ghost-5, for instance), the Hero4 Silver's screen is better designed in terms of brightness, sharpness, and impact on battery life. It's positioning seems natural, and the interface makes it easy to review your footage before moving on.

Our testing found the Silver's touchscreen to be extremely responsive and intuitive for the most part. Some portions of the interface, however, were a bit confusing - and a little buggy. Given GoPro's history, I would expect a firmware update to address these issues.

The bottom line? If this is your first foray into the wild with an action cam, or you are looking to upgrade from the Hero3+ Black, this is the cam for you. The touchscreen is a major upgrade, and this model is priced $150 less than the GoPro Hero 4.
