Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam

Best Mousse for Curly Hair

Why people love it
  • Exactly what you want for enhancing curly hair
  • You'll want to keep smelling your hair - it's so good
  • Really good at controlling frizz
  • Some bottles have nozzle issues

This is amazing for curly hair. It offers just enough hold to tame wild curls without weighing them down or making them crunchy.

More than that, it's really amazing at controlling frizz, so whether you're looking to style or just keep things in line, this should be your go-to mousse.

It does impart some volume and shine, but really it's all about sculpting here.

Hold: This has the light to medium hold that you're most likely to associate with mousse. But you should be aware that this is a sculpting mousse, not a holding product; it will define curls, not make them.

Shine: This does give a little shine, though really it's just more a matter of bringing through the natural moisture in your hair. There is, however, an ingredient included to add shine.

Scent: It's got a light coconut, pina colada scent that most users really do love.

What's inside: The manufacturer speaks a lot about the awapuhi extract which does add moisture and shine. There's also white ginger, aloe, jojoba, and rosemary extracts.

Sadly, it does have parabens and alcohol but it is cruelty-free.

Application: Interestingly, this mousse does come out of the can a little watery, but once it comes into contact with air, it foams up, but it's lighter and fluffier than other sculpting mousses.

Damp hair application is recommended, but applying it to dry hair will help with frizz.

Price: It may seem like the MSRP of $30 is high, but you can usually pick it up for under $25. Also, remember that this is a giant 16.9-ounce can, so it works out to less than $1.50 per ounce.

That's more than reasonable, plus it comes with Prime shipping.
