Any day now, you can expect Omega's latest creation to hit the market. It's lovingly called the "Grey Side of the Moon" in reference to the first moon walk. And, the new Omega Speedmaster (reference #3126.96.36.199.99.001) is more than exquisitely timeless. It features ground breaking design and a development never before seen in a watch - even by the Omega brand.
What isn't to like about this watch? It's an ideal watch for the gentlemen that travel seamlessly between the realms of man's man and lady's man. The wearer will certainly garner attention and respect from both. But this watch has a deeper story. As with the other Omega Moonwatches, it is inspired by the lunar dust seen during mankind's first walk on the moon. This watch's white ceramic luminance is merely a testament to the the limitless horizon's of dedicated men.
And, this is no ordinary white ceramic either. To create the grey effect which lends itself to the name, the casing material is heated to 20,000 degrees Celsius in a plasma heating chamber. After 3 hours, the enclosed gases transform into the pearly grey color featured on the case, case back, bezel, crown, pushers and buckle of this remarkable timepiece.
But that's not the only unique facet of this 44.25mm watch. It also features Super-LumiNova technology. Not only are the bezel marks engraved (as you would expect); they are also filled with Super-LumiNova to make the watch readable under the most adverse conditions. You'll also notice this on the Ω symbol on the crown. Another departure from the "Dark Side of the Moon", are the 2 integrated platinum sub-dials.
You cannot see it from these pictures, but "Grey Side of the Moon" is engraved on the back of this timepiece. A grey leather strap completes the look. And durability is reinforced with a rubber insert at the buckle fastening point. All this is in addition to the precision Omega carries throughout every piece it creates. Of course, you will pay for the luxury of wearing this watch. It is expected to go for about $12,000, which is in-line with it's predecessor. More importantly though are the understated possibilities that this watch stands for - the unbridled and relentless development of the modern man.
