If you’re looking for a premier travel credit card, the HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card may have never come up in your searches online.
But depending on your existing relationship with HSBC Bank USA, this HSBC credit card could be well worth your time. While the card charges an annual fee, it waives it for its HSBC Premier clients.
Even if you have to pay the annual fee, you can easily make up for it every year through the card’s rewards program and its suite of benefits. Read on to learn more about the HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card and find out if it’s right for you.
HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card review
The HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card offers new cardholders a sign-up bonus worth $400 in air travel, along with several travel insurance benefits, credits, and even discounts.
The card’s ongoing rewards program, however, isn’t its most exciting feature.
If you’re an HSBC Premier client, you won’t have to pay the card’s $95 annual fee. To qualify, you need to open an HSBC Premier checking account and maintain balances of $100,000 in combined personal deposit accounts and investment balances with the bank.
HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card rewards and perks
When you first get your card, you’ll have three months to spend $3,000, after which you’ll receive 35,000 bonus points. These points are worth as much as $400 if you use them to book air travel.
That said, you’re not limited to redeeming your points for flights. You can also use them to book hotels and car rentals using HSBC Bank USA’s online travel site or transfer your points to one of the bank’s airline partners.
Those partners include British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Singapore Airlines.
You’ll also earn rewards on your everyday purchases, specifically 2 points per dollar spent on travel and 1 point per dollar spent everywhere else.
Unfortunately, those aren’t great rewards rates for a travel credit card. Other top travel credit cards offer as much as 2 points per dollar spent, regardless of where you shop.
HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card benefits
The HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card’s sign-up bonus is impressive if you’re an HSBC Premier client. And while the card’s rewards program isn’t too exciting, the card’s other benefits can more than make up for it, even if you’re paying the annual fee.
Here’s what you’ll get:
- $85 TSA Pre√ credit to reimburse the application fee
- $50 Statement Credits for rides with Uber and Lyft
- Unlimited Boingo Wi-Fi access
- Car rental collision and damage insurance
- Lost or damaged baggage coverage
- Trip cancellation insurance

- Purchase assurance
- Return protection
- Price protection
- No foreign transaction fees
In other words, the more you use this card, especially when you travel, the easier it will be to squeeze value out of it.
HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card costs and fees
The HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card charges a $95 annual fee by default, but it will waive it for you if you’re a HSBC USA Bank Premier client. Remember, that requires $100,000 in combined balances between your HSBC deposit and investment accounts.
As for the card’s APR, it doesn’t offer an introductory 0% APR promotion like some other HSBC credit cards do. Also, the card’s ongoing APR, which will depend on your creditworthiness, is relatively high, even if you qualify for the best offer.
The card doesn’t charge any foreign transaction fees — these fees typically run 3% of each international purchase — which will make traveling abroad cheaper.
Does the HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card make sense for me?
The HSBC Premier World Mastercard® Credit Card isn’t the best travel credit card on the market, but it can provide a lot of value to its cardholders.
If you’re an HSBC Premier client, the card may be a no-brainer with its waived annual fee. But even if you don’t qualify for that, the card is still packed with benefits that could more than make up for its annual fee.
That said, no card is perfect, and it’s important to compare this one with others of its kind. As you shop around, think about what your top priorities are to have in a credit card and work to find a card that best fits your wish list.
While the one you choose may not be the best for others, it can still be the best credit card for you.
