If you own a business and love flying on Delta airlines, you should consider the Delta SkyMiles Business credit card from American Express. This business card offers a heap of valuable benefits for regular Delta customers, including priority boarding, a free checked bag, and savings on in-flight purchases.
The biggest value, of course, comes in the form of Delta SkyMiles points you earn each time you use the card, plus a bonus of up to 30,000 miles for new customers. While it does charge an annual fee, depending on your spending habits and travel habits, it could be well worth it. Let’s look at the details to help you decide if you should get the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business card.
Gold Delta SkyMiles Business credit card review
The Delta SkyMiles Business card is a solid airline card for Delta loyalists. If you love Delta or regularly travel to or from a major Delta hub, this card can help you quickly earn Delta miles redeemable for free and discounted travel.
New cardholders start with 30,000 bonus miles after spending $1,000 on new purchases in the first three months after opening a new account. With your first purchase on Delta in the same three month period, you will get up to $50 back in the form of a statement credit.
Starting at your first swipe, you’ll collect 2 miles per dollar spent at Delta and 1 mile per dollar everywhere else. This isn’t the best rewards rate around, which is why we primarily recommend this card to Delta regulars. But with just a few flights per year, you can earn back the annual fee and more from the checked bag benefit alone.
On flight day, this credit card makes your experience much more comfortable. You can get on the plane earlier with priority boarding, save money with a free first checked bag, and enjoy a 20% discount on in-flight purchases made with the card.
Gold Delta SkyMiles Business credit card rewards
As the name implies the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business card pays you rewards in the form of Delta SkyMiles. Delta’s miles are worth 1.2 cents each, according to The Points Guy. That means the starting 30,000 bonus is worth about $360.
Earning the bonus requires spending $1,000 on new purchases in the first three months you have the card. Those and all other purchases pay you 2 miles per dollar spent at Delta 1 mile per dollar everywhere else.
Delta does not publish an award chart, so getting the best value per mile does require a bit of searching and planning. Also keep in mind that SkyMiles may be worth less than miles from some competing airlines, thanks to its unique award ticket pricing.
As a member of the SkyTeam alliance, you can use miles to book partner awards on airlines including Aeroflot, Aerolineas Argentines, AeroMexico, AirEuropa, Air France, Alitalia, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, CSA Czech Airlines, Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudia, TAROM, Vietnam Airlines and Xiamen Air.
Gold Delta SkyMiles Business credit card credit card benefits
This card is custom tailored to offer benefits valued by Delta’s most frequent flyers. As we already discussed in the sections above, those benefits include priority boarding, a 20% savings on in-flight purchases, and a free first checked bag on Delta flights purchased with the card.
As a gold card from American Express, it comes loaded with additional benefits that can save you money while providing valuable protection. Benefits include travel accident insurance, baggage insurance, and rental car insurance. Those benefits apply whether or not you fly on Delta.
The card also comes with no foreign exchange fees, valuable for international travel, plus a roadside assistance program.
At the cash register, this card offers even more in the form of an automatic extended warranty and purchase protection. Amex Offers offers significant savings at many popular online and traditional retailers and service providers.
Gold Delta SkyMiles Business credit card costs and fees
This card does charge some fees, but you can avoid many of them with responsible card use. As with any credit card, you don’t have to pay interest if you pay off the balance in full before the monthly due date.
The card charges a $95 annual fee, which is waived for the first year. If you take advantage of the checked bag benefit at least four times per year, you covered the cost of the annual fee right there. This benefit alone might make the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business card a good fit for your needs.
For interest, the card charges 17.74% to 26.74% variable rate APR. Your rate is based on your own credit history and market interest rates. Rates can change at any time with no notice. The card charges a higher 27.24% APR for cash advances, also a variable rate. Late and returned payments can trigger a higher 29.99% penalty APR.
The card does not allow balance transfers and cash advance transactions, while allowed, cost 3% ($5 minimum) in addition to the higher interest rate. Late and returned payments cost up to $38 per occurrence.
