If you own your own business, a business credit card is an important tool that helps control your cash flow, protect your bank accounts from fraud, and earn valuable rewards you can put back into the business, or your own pocket.
Ink Business Cash℠ is a top-tier business credit card from Chase. It offers up to 5% cash back on bonus category purchases common for businesses and comes with 0% APR on purchases or balance transfers for the first 12 months after opening a new account. Coupled with a $500 signup bonus after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first three months after opening a new account and no annual fee, this card is a winner. Let’s look at the details to see if it belongs in your wallet.
Chase Ink Business Cash℠ review
Chase Ink Business Cash℠ is one of the best cash back business credit cards available today, and possibly the best cash back business credit card with no annual fee. It is great for both standard and bonus cash back rewards and has low fees.
Right out the gate, you can earn $500 in cash back after making $3,000 in purchases in the first three months after opening a new account. That is on top of the regular rewards you earn from this card, up to 5% cash back on bonus categories like office supply stores and internet bills.
The card can help your business borrow at little to no cost thanks to 0% intro APR for 12 months on new accounts for both purchases and balance transfers. If you carry a balance on a high-interest business credit card, you can transfer the balance to this card and get ahead on payments during the no interest period. Maybe even pay it off for good!
With no fees for most regular activity and valuable purchase and travel protections, there is little reason to say no to this credit card unless you want even more valuable rewards that are often limited to premium tier cards with annual fees.
Ink Business Cash℠ rewards and perks
The biggest benefit of this card is its rewards program. As mentioned above, it starts out with $500 in cash back after $3,000 in purchases in the first three statement periods after opening a new account.
For purchases, you earn 5% cash back on up to $25,000 per year in combined purchases at office supply stores, internet, cable, and phone services. Few cards compete in value with 5% back. This benefit is worth up to $1,250 per year depending on your business spending.
At gas stations and restaurants, you get 2% cash back on up to $25,000 in combined annual purchases. For regular business travelers or anyone with a fleet of business vehicles, this cash back can add up fast. This is worth up to $500 per year depending on your spending.
For all purchases beyond the $25,000 limit and everywhere else, you earn an unlimited 1% cash back. This is fairly standard for cash back credit cards.
All in, you can easily earn hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars per year in cash back, plus $500 more the first year. You can redeem that cash back as statement credits that lowers your bill, travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards, points at Amazon.com, or choose from over 70 gift card options.
Cashback rewards never expire as long as your account is open and in good standing.
Ink Business Cash℠ credit card benefits
Outside of cash back, this card comes with five valuable travel and purchase benefits, plus no liability for fraudulent purchases made on the card.
For purchases, you get purchase protection and extended warranty benefits that automatically protect your new purchases against damage and theft and offer a longer period of coverage in case something breaks.
For travel, this card offers auto rental insurance, travel and emergency assistance services, and emergency roadside dispatch. You do have to pay for emergency and roadside assistance rendered, but it’s great to know someone has your back.
Ink Business Cash℠ costs and fees
While this card does not charge an annual fee, it isn’t free if you carry a balance after the first year or take advantage of a few select account features.
The card charges variable rate 14.74% to 20.74% APR depending on your credit history and market interest rates. This rate can change at any time. Balance transfers have the same APR, though cash advances cost 26.49% APR, also a variable rate. But keep in mind that for the first year, there is no interest charge on purchases and balance transfers.
If you default on the card, which happens when you don’t make a minimum payment by the due date or a payment is returned, a 29.99% default APR kicks in. Make sure you always pay on time to avoid this high-interest cost.
Balance transfers cost 5% ($5 minimum) and cash advances cost 5% ($15 minimum) Foreign transactions come with a 3% fee.
Late and returned payments cost up to $39 per occurrence. Pay on time from an account that has enough funds to cover the bill and you never have to worry about these fees.
Does the Ink Business Cash℠ make sense for me?
As long as you use the card responsibly and pay the card off in full every month, it offers huge benefits at virtually no cost. The first year alone you should earn enough cash back to make this card worthwhile. Remember, you can put that $500 bonus back into the business or take it as a bonus for yourself. There are no restrictions on how you spend it!
You may be able to earn more valuable rewards with some travel and premium tier business credit cards, but those often require an annual fee, which is not the case with Chase Ink Business Cash℠. If you want a card with a valuable, easy-to-use cash back rewards program, this card may very well be the best choice for your business credit needs.
