Unless you watched basketball from the 50s and 60s, the name Bill Russell may not mean much. But to the early NBA players, he was a god. He led the Boston Celtics to 11 championships in just 13 seasons, a feat no other player or team in ANY sport has been able to duplicate. He played every position with determination, and played to win every time!

Accomplishments:

  • Eleven Championship titles (in 13 seasons)
  • 2010 Recipient of Presidential Medal of Freedom
  • NBA records for rebounds in one half

His 51-rebound game is still second-highest in NBA history--right behind his perennial opponent Wilt Chamberlain.
