8 Best Weight Lifting Gloves

8 Best Weight Lifting Gloves

After 12 hours of research evaluating 75 products, we picked Nordic Lifting Weightlifting Gloves as our top choice.

To glove, or not to glove, that is the question!

There's a lot of debate about whether weightlifting gloves are worth using. Some insist that they are bad, as they decrease the engagement of your forearm (grip) muscles and cause you to rely on wrist support rather than strengthening your wrist.

For others, the workout gloves are a way to reduce calluses and compensate for structural deficiencies. Note: I personally use them to help support my wrists, which have never fully healed from the times I broke them.

Whether you want to protect your hands from calluses or add padding for heavy lifting, it's worth using a pair of gym gloves. Guys and girls alike can benefit from adding workout gloves to their gym gear.

Check out what we've got for you…

We've done the hard work of combing over all the gym gloves, testing some personally, reading thousands of reviews, and comparing them to find only the best weight lifting gloves on the market. Read on to find out our top recommendations for you to consider.

Why People Love it

  • Full protection for your hand, yet a full range of motion
  • Versatile enough for most resistance training; durable
  • Designed to prevent odors and excessive sweat

Total hand protection, antimicrobial lining, terrycloth padding, adaptable to your hand's shape, comfortable, decent ventilation, flexible, good wrist support

A bit hot in warmer weather, too thick for CrossFit/crosstraining

If you're a resistance trainee that needs a pair of gloves for outdoor workouts, you'll love these! The full-finger protection will keep your hands warm in the winter, and will protect you from barbell-caused calluses. They can be a bit difficult to slip on, but once they're in place, they'll do wonders to enhance your grip.

Be warned: the gloves are too hot for the summer heat, and they're a bit too thick for CrossFit and other cross-training workouts. However, they're for weightlifting, and they're flexible enough to be used for cycling, rowing, and most resistance training workouts. They're designed to adapt to the shape of your hand, and the separate pads give you good freedom of hand movement while still keeping your hands comfortable.

The gloves come with pads built into the palms and fingers, with strips of terrycloth for padding. The backs of the gloves are made with Lycra, and the pads are connected with the same breathable, lightweight material.

Some users complain that the palms tend to fall apart quickly, but overall the gloves are built to be very durable. They offer excellent wrist support and a fit that is ideal for any hand size.

Starting at $24, these are just on the pricier side of things. However, if you want workout gloves for winter or outdoor training in cool weather, you'll love the full-fingered design.

Why People Love it

  • A pair of gloves suited for any and all types of exercise
  • Excellent breathability; lightweight and comfy
  • Durable, well-made, and sporty design

Good padding, wrist support, durable, comfortable, versatile, enhance your grip, not so thick they interfere with your grip, great for all types of workouts, protect your hands and palms

VERY tight on your first few uses, pricey

For those who want a pair of gloves for any type of training, this is your best bet. They look and feel more like grips with an integrated wrist wraps, with an open-back and side design that offers excellent breathability for your hands. Though some users have complained that they hurt when doing push-ups, they're ideal for rope climbing, tire training, sledgehammer training, weightlifting, cycling, and rowing.

The gloves are made with quality stitching that will hold up even with regular use. You'll find that they're lightweight despite their thick padding. Some users have complained that they're almost painfully tight during the first few uses, but once you stretch them out they're definitely a comfortable choice.

The gloves come with extra padding built into the palm, though not so much it weakens your grip. The silica gel padding in the palm will enhance your grip, but be prepared for it to wear off after a few uses. The wrist supports will help to strengthen your joints and prevent injuries.

The reinforced neoprene construction can take a beating, and the Velcro closure straps will make it easy to adjust the tightness and fit.

At $35, these are definitely on the pricier side, but worth it if you're a CrossFitter or someone who mixes things up in your training. These gloves are designed to handle ANY type of workouts!

Why People Love it

  • Replaces power hooks, grip pads, and lifting grips
  • Fully adjustable and versatile, useful for any and all heavy lifts
  • Ergonomically designed; comfortable and durable

Easy to use, comfortable, great wrist support, one size fits all, adds extra grip power for heavy lifts, good quality, take the strain off your forearms and wrists

Pricey, sizes difficult to get right

For powerlifters and Olympic lifters getting ready for some heavy Deadlifts, these are your best friend! They're built to enhance your grip, offering you better traction on the heavy barbell. They will reduce the tension on your wrists and forearms to help you concentrate on your lower back and body form.

The grips are "one size fits all", though people with larger hands find the tongue is just a bit too short for comfortable grip. However, they are incredibly durable and will provide you the added grip strength to support those heavy barbells while you lift.

The grips come with a leather-covered tongue that wraps around the barbell, offering excellent traction for your fingers to grip. The wrist strap will offer good support to your wrists and take some of the weight off your fingers, enabling you to lift heavier weights. The unisex design makes them ideal for both male and female heavy lifters.

At $33, these are slightly on the pricier side. Those who want an alternative to power hooks and lifting grips will find this an excellent choice, if a bit more expensive than other gloves on our list.

Why People Love it

  • Protects your palm and wrist without hampering hand movement
  • Highly durable, made with premium materials
  • Reduces pinching and friction, enhances grip on barbell, kettlebell, and dumbbells

Slim design, durable, made in the USA, enhances your grip, can be used with chalk, absorbs friction, easy to slip on and off, thin, great wrist support

Pricey, too slippery for pull-ups

If you need a pair of CrossFit gloves, you'll love these bad boys. They don't cover your whole hand, but simply protect your palm from friction, pinching, and calluses. They also offer excellent wrist support, giving you what you need for those heavy lifts, pull-ups, and kettlebell moves.

The palm isn't made with leather, but instead a slip-resistant synthetic cloth that is slim and lightweight. Though you'll get good grip on a textured barbell, dumbbell, or kettlebell handle, the palm is too slippery to enhance your grip on a smooth pull-up bar. However, you'll find their design makes it easy to move from bodyweight to weighted movements without having to remove the gloves.

The gloves are designed to ONLY cover the main part of your palm, and they have three finger holes (index, middle, and ring fingers) that make them easy to slip on and off. The 2-inch-thick wrist band offers good support for your wrists, even for heavy lifts.

The material is synthetic, not genuine leather, but made in the USA and very durable. The palm pad offers just enough padding without interfering with your grip.

At $40, these are among the priciest options on our list—what else would you expect from CrossFit gear? However, given their durability and slim design, they're a decent pair of lifting gloves to consider.

Why People Love it

  • The ideal pair of gloves for heavy lifts/bench pressing
  • Built-in silica gel palm enhances grip effectively
  • Durable, comfortable, and versatile

Thick padding, comfy, easy to take off and put on, durable, 1-year warranty, unisex, great customer service, reliable wrist support, good quality stitching

Gripping material on the palm tends to flake/peel

For those who need thick padding (such as for heavy bench pressing), these are the perfect pair of gloves. Thanks to the extra layers of padding integrated into the palm, you can protect your hands and wrists. The silica gel palms will enhance your grip while adding extra padding.

The gloves tend to run a bit small, and the surface of the padding material is prone to flaking and peeling—a problem common with most weight lifting gloves. However, the stitching and closures are solid, making them a great, fairly durable pair to use for heavy weightlifting.

The gloves come with thick padding built into the palms, silica gel to enhance your grip, and wrist straps to add support. The pull tabs on the fingers make it easy to pull the gloves off mid-workout.

Starting at $17, these are slightly on the pricier side, but worth it thanks to their heavy padding and solid wrist support.

Why People Love it

  • Super comfortable and lightweight, great for any workout
  • Good wrist support and hand protection; enhances grip
  • Adjust them to your hand and wrist size

All-purpose gloves, good grip, ultra-light, great ventilation, no cheap feel or smell, easy to put on and take off, affordable, reliable, adjustable fit

Sizes are a bit tight/small, thin material

For those who want all-purpose gloves, try these bad boys on for size. They're lightweight enough that you'll hardly notice them as you run, cycle, or lift weights, but they'll protect your hands from damage on concrete, rough metal bars, or pull-up bars. They don't have a lot of padding, but they offer enough wrist support to keep you comfortable as you train.

Users have complained that sizes run a bit small. However, order a size larger than normal and use the wrist and back-of-hand straps to adjust it to your desired size.

The 2-inch-thick wrist wraps offer excellent support for those with wrist problems. The padding on the palm is a bit thin for heavy bench pressing, but it's enough for push-ups on concrete, pull-ups, or other mid-weight activities. The silica gel palm helps to increase your grip on barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, and pull-up bars.

The lightweight material offers excellent ventilation, so your hands will stay dry and cool as you train.

At $12, these are very well-priced for a set of lightweight gym gloves. Though not the most durable choice on our list, they offer lightweight comfort at great value.

Why People Love it

  • No need for adjusters or straps—so easy to put on/take off!
  • Excellent ventilation and breathability; very comfortable
  • Durable, reliable, and versatile

Minimalist, durable, solid grip, slip on and off easily, useful for all workouts, helps to prevent sweaty palms, genuine-leather palms, available in a wide range of styles/colors

No palm support/padding for bench pressing, not suitable for small hands

If you're looking for a minimalist pair of workout gloves, you'll love these. They're actually gym grips, with a slip-on design that provides you added grip while lifting. They won't provide more padding to cushion for bench presses, but the 100% leather palm pad will help you grip more securely as you Deadlift, Squat, and Pull-Up.

People with smaller hands complain that the grips are bulky and interfere with their grip, but those with average- and larger-sized hands love the added traction provided. Their minimalist design makes them comfortable, easy to slip on and off, and versatile enough for any workout.

The gym grip is simple: it's a leather pad atop a cloth backing, with four holes to slip your fingers into. While it helps you to grip bars more easily, it won't provide cushioning for your palms. Their lack of wrist support forces your joints/muscles to adapt to the heavier weight, leading to stronger secondary (stabilizing) muscles.

At $20, these may seem like very little "glove" for a high price tag. These are ideal for those who prefer the minimalist style to enhance their grip without using a fully covering glove. They're one of the most useful pieces of gym gear for CrossFit, HIIT, and traditional resistance training.

Why People Love it

  • Perfect for all types of training; good cushioning
  • Prevent blisters and calluses with these affordable gloves
  • Support your wrists, adds padding for heavy lifts

Great wrist support, versatile, ample padding, cheap, stylish, 1-year warranty, lightweight, flexible, comfortable to wear

Quality control issues, not the most durable

These gloves are designed to be used with every workout, from CrossFit to traditional resistance training to cycling to rowing. They're made of an inexpensive faux leather (not the most durable), and they're wonderfully lightweight. At the same time, they provide padding, protection from calluses and blisters, and wrist support.

These are NOT gloves for those who do hardcore workouts, but they're the best pair of gym gloves for anyone who wants to get in a workout while protecting their hands and adding wrist support.

The gloves come with padding built into the palm, protecting your hands as you bench press and pull-up. The material used for the gloves is soft and comfortable, even when you sweat. Thanks to the 12-inch long and 2-inch wide wrist straps, you can reduce the wear on your joints when heavy lifting.

The reinforced stitching is intended to increase the lifespan of the gloves. Sadly, more than a few customers have complained this is the first part to break. Other quality control issues (such as gloves arriving damaged) have also been reported.

For $20, this is a pretty decent pair of gloves. They can be used for any workout, and they're a newbie gymgoer's ideal "intro" pair.
