There’s just something about scaring yourself silly, isn’t there? Sure, you can watch a moving drama that makes you think about the world you live in. Or, you can laugh at that world when you’re engrossed in a comedy. But, you’ll get a serious rush from watching something a little terrifying.
We’ve turned to one of our favorite platforms to find the very best movies to scare us silly. This Netflix movie list covers it all.
Not all scary movies fit into the horror genre, as you’ll see in these faves. Some are psychological thrillers (which are sometimes more frightening because they could be real). Then there are the crime thrillers which keep you on the edge of your seat.
Fortunately for all of us, we can easily track good movies on Netflix. And these are the scariest movies on at the moment.
2. Dark Summer
Don’t make the mistake of believing this movie is for teens only. It’s incredibly scary. A kid on house arrest (for stalking a girl) is trapped in a nightmare he has no control over. This movie starts a little slow, but it’s absolutely worth it… especially if you can sit tight for 40 minutes.
Not sure if it’s for you? You can watch the trailer here.
3. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
This movie is beautifully shot as it covers the big, bad city at night. There are drugs, crime, easy women and, oh yes, vampire attacks. It’s a black and white film, so you almost know the story line is going to be chilling from the moment it starts.
This movie follows the chilling interaction of a blogger that’s faced off with aliens… and not in a good way. As people notice, it becomes a little more frightening. It’s an independent film, so it doesn’t feature any big names (or budget for effects), but if you have an imagination, it will get to you.
Whatever you do, don’t read too many reviews before you get into this flick. There are spoilers all over the place. And you really don’t want that. This is one of those rare new releases that’s an absolute keeper. Seriously.
6. Devil’s Backbone, Texas
This movie feels real no matter how you dice it. Covering the past and slipping into the present, Devil’s Backbone, Texas is damn scary.
7. Inner Demons
A teenager heads to rehab for a drug addiction. But, as she dries up, things aren’t getting any better. They’re getting worse and it looks like the devil may be behind it all.
