Why People Love it

• Well-priced, yet with a great design and build quality

• Incredibly easy to open flip knife

• The ideal flip knife for everyday use

Affordable, durable, lightweight, compact, easy to open, one-handed operation, blade lock offers excellent stability, well-built and well-designed, and great for EDC.

Doesn't hold its edge as long as other knives; and the thumb studs are basically useless.

Performance: Let's get the bad out of the way first: the knife doesn't hold its edge well. Though it's razor sharp out of the box, expect to sharpen it regularly.

Now on to the good. First off, there's the simple, user-friendly design of the grip. No matter the size of your hands, the knife won't slip or shift. The titanium carbo-nitride coating on the handle reduces glare as well as increases friction, giving you a solid grip on the knife.

The blade is short (2.75 inches). Closed, the knife is less than 4 inches long, making it the best EDC knife. It's slim and lightweight, so it will fit into your pocket easily. The 410 steel blade is durable enough to handle regular use, and there's no risk of rusting or tarnishing thanks to the carbo-nitride coating.

Features: The knife feels solid and sturdy in your hand, and all the screws are properly tightened on the handle. The clip will make it easy for you to carry the blade in either pocket, tip up or down.

The flipper allows you to open the blade easily, making it a flip knife perfect for those who need to pull out their blade in a hurry. Be warned: the thumb studs are useless—they require too much pressure to open the knife, and you run the risk of slicing your thumb.

Price: At $25, this is the cheapest knife on our list. Yet don't think that affordable means low quality in this case. The knife may not be the best overall, but it's definitely a low-budget option worth considering.

Why People Love it

• Incredibly strong locking system keeps the blade securely in place

• Durable 420HC steel blade; holds an edge well

• Smooth mechanism with a heavy duty frame

Wooden handle, 420HC steel blade, narrow tip, great for detail work, brass bolsters enhance grip strength, Lifetime Warranty, lightweight, and good blade length.

Takes two hands to open, and reviewers report quality control issues.

Performance: If you need a great knife to take on your hunting trips, this is the blade for you! With its 420HC steel blade and brass bolster-enhanced wooden handle, you have a knife built to last. It's lightweight enough to carry without noticing, but the 4-inch blade delivers all the knife edge you need to cut into any carcass. The narrow point is great for detailed work, such as skinning the underbelly of a deer.

The blade is durable, holds an edge well, and has a smooth action that opens and closes easily. You have to open the blade two-handed, but it's easy to use with either hand once opened.

Be warned: Buck does have trouble with quality control. More than a few blades have defects. The manufacturer will happily replace them, but it's a hassle for users that need a good knife NOW.

Features: The locking system is guaranteed to keep the blade securely in place both open and closed. The lockback design reduces the risk of the knife snapping closed while you're using it, and keeps the blade from wiggling as you're cutting.

The wooden handle is easy to grip, and the brass bolsters reduce the wear and tear on the grip. It's a simple knife with few features, but it's still one of the best hunting knives around.

Price: At $40, this is a well-priced blade. You get a lifetime warranty (including replacements for defective knives) on this US-made product. It's a simple tool that delivers quality—everything you need in a hunting knife!

Why People Love it

• Blade can withstand hardcore use in any environment

• One-handed opening, even with gloves on

• Lightweight, compact, and beautifully sharp

Most durable blade on the market, easy to open with one hand, tactical design, 4-way clip, high quality materials, slim clip point for detailed work, durable compression lock, and great for both use at home and on the job.

Stiff action and hard to open and close.

Performance: This is a folding knife built to last! With S30V steel blade can stand up to use in every climate condition: wet, dry, hot, cold, freezing, windy, rainy, etc. It's a blade built to last, and it's perfect for use on the job (EMT, firefighter, military, law enforcement) as well as at home.

The knife itself is lightweight and compact, with a 3.44-inch blade (shorter than average) that can slice through anything. It holds its edge beautifully, and you'll find that is VERY sharp right out of the factory. Thanks to the clip point, you can use it for any detailed work.

Features: This is a great little knife packed with features. The 4-way clip allows you to store it in any pocket, where it's easy to grab with either hand. The tactical design allows you to take it apart and put it back together—perfect for when you need to deep clean it.

The G-10 laminate scales on the handle will keep it gripped solidly in your hand. You'll love the one-handed opening, made possible by the Spyderco Round hole built into the back of the blade. The hole is large enough for even gloved fingers to fit into it. However, be warned: the action is stiff, and the blade is more difficult to open/close than you'd expect.

Price: At $126, this is one of the pricier items on the list. However, the high price tag is worth it if you want a knife that will last for years to come. Few blades can match the quality of this one, and the design is convenient, compact, and durable.

Why People Love it

• Swiss Army knife's "original flavor"

• Durable, versatile, and guaranteed against defects

• Gives you everything you need in a simple fold-out knife

The classic pocket knife, 12 stainless steel tools, incredibly durable, lifetime warranty, built with reliable Victorinox quality, compact, lightweight, and easy to grip.

Difficult to open, especially for those with short nails.

Performance: There are few pocket knives more iconic than this classic Swiss Army knife—the "original flavor", if you will. With 12 tools you'll need around the house and office every day, it's a knife that gives you exactly what you need. As lifelong users of this particular Swiss Army knife, we at Faveable can say that it is one of the most durable, long-lasting knives you will find.

The design is clever and reliable, with the durability that makes Victorinox one of the world leaders in pocket knives. It's slim enough to carry in any pocket or purse, with a grip that fits nicely in your hand. The blade is short (less than 3 inches long), but slim with a clip point that is useful for precision cutting.

Features: As the classic Swiss Army knife, this comes with the 12 most useful tools: large knife blade, nail file, nail cleaner, corkscrew, can opener, small screwdriver, bottle opener, large screwdriver, wire stripper, reamer, toothpick, and tweezers.

The position of the blade is off-center, so you may feel the grip twisting in your hand as you cut. However, each of the tools are built with high quality steel and resistant to wear, damage, and rust.

Price: The price tag of $28 is so incredibly affordable, and this is the only pocket knife you'll need around the house. Plus, Victorinox offers a lifetime warranty against defects. It's a simple knife that delivers quality and durability at a very low cost.

Why People Love it

• Legendary durability; excellent performance in the field

• Multiple knife points available (spear point, tanto, clip point)

• Rust and glare-resistant; great lubrication for quick opening

Incredibly useful blade, tactical design, superior non-slip grip, easy opening, strong pocket clip, 4-inch blade, excellent design, locks securely in place, Tri-Ad lock prevents lock failure, ambidextrous clip, and sits comfortably in your palm.

The Teflon coating is prone to chipping; and the grip is very rough.

Performance: This tactical knife is highly rated by firefighters and paramedics, making it an excellent choice for anyone who needs a knife to use in the field, while camping, or around the house. The AUS8 stainless steel is durable, thanks to the vacuum heat treatment and sub-zero cooling. The 4-inch blade is easy to flip out and locks securely in place, giving you a reliable edge to slice with. It's a bit heavier and bulkier than our top-rated knife, but it's good for those with larger hands.

The handle is contoured to reduce slipping, but the grip can be a bit rough on your clothing. The pocket clip can be used on either pocket, making it easy to pull out the knife in an emergency situation.

Features: The knife blade is coated with Teflon to make it rust-resistant. Though the Teflon does chip or scratch off, the blade itself will not rust or tarnish no matter how much you use it. You get your choice of knife point—spear point, clip point, and tanto.

The G-10 laminate scales on the knife handle offers amazing grip, and the thumb disc on the blade makes it easy to flip it out. The Tri Ad lock ensures that your blade never slips open when you're carrying it or closed when you're using it.

Price: At $130, this is one of the priciest knives on our list. The tactical design makes it useful for a variety of situations, so it's a good option to consider if you want a highly durable knife to keep with you through any emergency or on any job site.

Best Pocket Knife Overall

Kershaw Leek Knife

Best Pocket Knife Overall: Kershaw Leek Knife

Why People Love it

  • Drop-point blade that cuts, slices, and stabs anything
  • Compatible with left and right-handed users; SpeedSafe assisted opening
  • Incredibly durable, made from high quality stainless steel

Narrow tip perfect for piercing, durable, beautifully easy to open, lightweight, smooth handle, incredibly sharp, slim profile, versatile, good size (4 inches closed, 3 inch blade), pocket clip reversible, and great for detailed work.

The profile is too slim for people with big hands; and the safety lock is fragile.

Performance: If you're looking for a knife that can do just about anything and everything, this is the bad boy for you. The modified drop-point blade is perfect for slicing, yet its thin tip can pierce or puncture anything and is excellent for detailed work.

The knife is built from 410 stainless steel, with a bead-blasted finish that keeps the metal handle (no grip) and knife blade from rusting. It's slim, lightweight, and slips into your pocket easily—you'll forget it's there! The 3-inch blade is long enough for your tasks around the house/campsite, but short enough to be legal. The slim grip may be a bit small for bigger hands, but the blade itself is just what you need for a reliable knife to carry at all times.

Features: The SpeedSafe assisted opening system allows you to flip the knife blade open with your thumb or finger, and it's a one-handed design ideal for both left- and right-handed users. The knife comes with a safety lock that prevents it from slipping open in your pocket or snapping closed when cutting. Be warned: dropping the knife could snap the safety lock.

The pocketclip is designed to be unscrewed and rotated (tip up or tip down). This feature makes it easy for you to carry it in either pocket for quick accessibility according to which hand is dominant.

Price: At $40, this is a slightly pricey knife. However, you get reliability and quality for the higher price. If you're a regular knife user, this is the blade you want!

Keith PKershaw Atmos is a better EDC knife than anything on your list, many of which I have actually carried in the past. It's much lighter (about 2.0 ounces). It opens easily with one hand, every time, with minimal effort, thanks to the perfected assisted opening mechanism (a far better design than the older Leek, which is still on your list). No thumb stud to snag on stray threads or scratch your pinky when you carry in your front pocket. The deep carry clip is a superior design, working well with thick denim jeans and with lightweight business slacks. It's a handsome and functional blade design, and it only costs about $30. Try it for a month - you'll never go back to carrying a heavy, stiff, scratchy knife that doesn't clip or deploy easily (like many on your list).
