After 25 hours of research evaluating 124 products, we picked Exuviance Evening Restorative Complex as our top choice.
Getting older sucks. Which is why finding the best night cream and adding it to your daily regimen is so important.
According to Vanessa Elese, a celeb makeup artist: “Night creams are your answer to help tackle beauty concerns, such as dehydration, fine lines, dull unevenness, and wrinkles. A night cream aids in the full restoration of your skin, line smoothing, and plumping after a long day."
Pretty sweet deal, right? Pick up one of the best night creams from our list, spread some on your face at night, and wake up looking and feeling fresher than the day before.
Want to know the best part?
We found that there are a lot of night creams to help you tackle whatever skin concern you may have. Which is why we’ve compiled a list of the best night cream options, each with their own unique set of benefits.
Check them out and let us know what you think in the comments below!
This natural, plant-based night cream is fantastic for anyone worried about shelling out a lot of dough for a more expensive cream and having a bad reaction to it. This one is affordable and safe to use, and results in softer, fresher skin after extended use.
You may need to use this night cream for a while in order to see results (in terms of line reduction).
Benefits: Simply made from natural plant extracts and proteins, this night cream will give users softer and visibly more refreshed looking skin. Some users have claimed that it helps reduce fine lines, but most hail this one for the improvement of their skin texture.
Skin Type: This is a very lightweight cream that’s not prone to leaving skin feeling oily or greasy, so this would work well for most users (except maybe those with extra dry skin). And because this one is known to keep users from breaking out or drying out, this is especially good for those with sensitive skin.
Price: You may not find anything cheaper—or at a greater value—than this! Plus, it only takes a little bit to cover the whole face, so it's going to last you a long time.
If you’re worried about the potential side effects of using a retinol night cream to reduce the appearance of lines, spots, or even acne, this is a fantastic alternative. In fact, it’s simply a great choice for an anti-aging night cream if you’re looking for something that will be gentle on your skin while also protecting you from anything that could harm it.
There were a couple users with sensitive skin who saw a few bumps pop up after they started using this. We’ve seen this with some other creams before. Since most users claim that this helps prevent breakouts, it may just be during the initial introductory period of using it.
Benefits: This night cream does everything you would want an anti-aging cream to do: make your skin look younger, stop breakouts, smooth fine lines, reduce the appearance of spots, and so on.
Skin Type: This may not be an ideal choice if you’re worried about nothing more than a couple fine lines. This is for people who really want to reduce the appearance of aging on their face.
This is one of the cheapest night creams on the list, which is nice. While we recognize that retinol creams are the ones that do the best job at diminishing lines and keeping acne at bay, this is a great affordable alternative that won’t be as harsh on your skin.
Retinol night creams can do wonders for dry skin, dull skin, oversized pores, and even fine lines, but they often contain harsh irritants that keep many people away from using them. That’s not the case with this night cream formula.
The biggest complaint we've come across is that people feel kind of “meh” with this, in that it feels great but they don’t see any major changes from using it.
Benefits: For those of you who don’t know what a retinoid (the prescription-strength version of retinol) does, here you go: “The term describes vitamin A derivatives that unclog pores, boost collagen to reduce fine lines, and speed cell turnover to even out discoloration and smooth the skin—sometimes in as little as four weeks.” While retinol is a tad weaker than a retinoid, it has similar effects, as demonstrated by the RetAsphere night cream.
Skin Type: This retinol night cream is probably one of the gentlest formulas on the market. So, if you’ve had issues with retinols in the past but wanted to be able to enjoy the skin-improving benefits, you shouldn’t have to worry about any irritations with this cream.
Price: It’s expensive, but it does what it promises and won’t leave you with itchy, dry, or red skin.
There is no other way to describe la Mer, but as a “luxury”. It makes your skin feel fresher, look younger, and gives you a glow you wouldn’t otherwise expect to get from a night cream.
It’s super crazy expensive.
Skin Type: This night cream would be great for any skin type. However, if you’re trying to get the most out of this, we’d suggest using it for the anti-aging properties.
Price: This one’s definitely going to hurt your wallet.
We weren’t initially sold on the idea of using a nighttime oil as opposed to a night cream. However, having tested this one for some time now, we can attest to the skin softening and calming properties of the oil.
Some users complained of getting blackheads from the oil. When we tested this, we found something similar, but it wasn’t caused by the oil itself, it was more from switching between a retinol blackhead-busting cream to an oil.
Also, you can’t use this around your eyes. So, if you decide to go for it, you’ll have to do so in conjunction with an eye cream.
Benefits: If you’re looking to improve the overall look of your skin, this nighttime oil would be a great choice for you. All it takes is just a few drops to cover your face and you’ll wake up with softer and more evenly toned skin.
Skin Type: If you have oily or acne-prone skin to begin with, this isn’t going to be a great choice. It’s not that the oil makes your skin oily or causes it to break out; however, we’re not sure it would do anything to help skin that’s already prone to those conditions.
We tested the smallest size—which was expensive enough on its own. However, you should also consider the cost of the eye cream you’ll inevitably need to go with this.
It can often be hard to find a night cream (or any cream really) that won’t irritate your face when you’re already suffering from dry or sensitive skin. Thankfully, Avene’s Skin Recovery Cream does the trick by giving your face moisture without the harsh ingredients that cause those unsightly and uncomfortable reactions.
There have been some customers who complain about breaking out from this cream. In our experience, though, this may just be the first week or so of adjusting to a new nightly regimen. With such natural ingredients meant to actually ease discomfort, there shouldn't be much in the way of breakouts with this.
Benefits: As Bustle explained, “The formula is designed to repair overworked skin, calm irritation, and rebuild your moisture barrier.” In other words, if you’re tired of your sensitive or overly dry skin feeling worse after applying a night cream that’s supposed to do the opposite, then this is the one for you.
Skin Type: Sensitive skin. Dry skin. Overworked skin. Or maybe you just moved to a new climate and your skin isn’t adjusting well. If your skin needs some extra love and therapy, try Avene.
It’s more expensive than some of the brands you’d find in the drug store, but it’s sure to give you better results.
We were really excited to stumble upon this night cream for men. Basically, it has a soft, natural smell, works fast, and does exactly what it promises: makes your skin feel great while diminishing lines.
Because it’s such a heavy cream, just be careful about how much you put on so you don’t overdo it.
Benefits: This anti-aging cream’s abilities to soothe, tighten, and improve the texture of your skin are definitely the clutch benefits you’ll want to focus on.
Skin Type: While anyone could really use this, we’d suggest it for men starting to see the signs of aging.
It’s a little pricey, but you really don’t need to use much of it because of how thick the cream is.
Having tested this night cream by Exuviance for a while, we have absolutely no problem saying that this is indeed the best night cream overall. It works quickly, it smells supremely delicious, and it does everything it promises to improve your skin’s texture and tone.
It’s definitely an expensive night cream. Also, because it comes in a pump, you may not be able to use up every last drop the way you would with a jar.
Benefits: Want to look more refreshed? Looking to soften overworked skin? Want to smooth out lines? Interested in reducing the size of pores? Look no further, Exuviance Evening Restorative Complex does a great job of giving you clear and beautiful skin.
Skin Type: One of our testers has very sensitive skin and typically has to be careful about using creams with scents or that promise to diminish lines (especially if they contain retinol), but this one worked really well for her. Dry skin, normal skin, combination skin—this will work for everyone.
It’s expensive. But you get results.
Night creams are like a moisturizer, only richer and thicker. There are two main types of night creams: anti-aging and deep moisture. Anti-aging night creams are firming and fight against wrinkles. The ingredients you’ll find often include retinol, salicylic acid, or retinol acetate which all work to promote cell turnover. This means that new skin cells replace the old skin cells diminishing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Ingredients like retinol and salicylic acid become extremely irritating when exposed to UV rays. So, it’s best to use these night creams at night. Deep moisture night creams are ultra hydrating, nourishing, and restorative. They feature ingredients like emollients and oils. Although it is safe to use deep moisture night creams during the day, you may find that they are too heavy to wear under your makeup.
During the day, your skin faces some tough stuff. It’s exposed to UV rays, pollution, dirt, and makeup, which is why day creams are formulated to protect and support. Day creams include ingredients such as SPF, antioxidants, and caffeine. The SPF protects your skin from harmful UV rays, which is always important, while the antioxidants provide a protective barrier. Day creams often include caffeine too, to energize and firm your skin. The consistency of a day cream is lightweight and less greasy than night creams, since they are typically worn under makeup.
During the night, your skin repairs itself and does most of it’s recovering from the day. Therefore, night creams are often designed to moisturize and help with the recovery. The formulas usually contain slow absorbing moisturizers with high concentrations of anti-aging ingredients like retinol or glycolic acid. The consistency of a night cream is much thicker and richer than day creams, too.
The benefits of using a night cream are noticeable today, tomorrow, and years from now. We get that moisturizing your face can be another annoying step to your already-too-long nightly routine. However, it’s a step you really don’t want to skip, trust us. Our face and body tolerate some pretty tough stuff throughout the day. Years of wearing makeup everyday, being out in the sun, and harsh chemicals found in beauty products can really take a toll on your skin.
According to the National Institute on Aging, over time, your skin changes. It becomes thinner, loses fat, and no longer looks as plump and smooth as it once did. But, using a night cream can replenish your face and to make it feel and look better.
How a night cream helps your skin today: It’s the perfect end to taking a hot shower or washing your face. Not only does a night cream feel soothing after, but it also makes your skin look healthier. Hot water and facial cleansers can often strip your skin of moisture. Many night creams have ingredients such as oils, occlusives and humectants that lock in and attract water to your skin cells. Immediately after applying a good night cream you’ll notice a smoother, healthier looking complexion. Not to mention, you’ll wake up with softer skin, which is always a good way to start the day.
How a night cream helps your skin years from now: According to the British Journal of Dermatology, people with frequently moisturized skin get fewer wrinkles than those with dry skin. Moisturized skin cells are happy skin cells. They can quickly repair themselves and turn over new cells faster. This means fewer wrinkles down the road.
You could, however, night creams don’t typically have SPF in them and it’s essential when leaving the house. And, since night creams are richer than day creams, they may make your skin shiny and greasy-looking throughout the day. Whether or not you can use your night cream as a day cream also depends on the ingredients in it. Some ingredients, like retinol, are not suitable for daytime use. They can actually harm your skin when exposed to the sun.
If you need more hydration in a day cream, try the Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief. This cream is so versatile, it works wonders on all skin types - especially for those with dry skin. The Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief moisturizer stays light and fluffy, like silky whipped butter. This product is fragrance-free and hypoallergenic making it safe for those with more sensitive skin. But what really sets it apart from the rest is the cool, gel feeling. The gel is very thin and glides onto your skin, requiring very little to cover your whole face. The main ingredients include birch bark extract, lady's thistle extract, green tea leaf, aloe, and caffeine.
Of course not! But it also depends on which one you choose. Pay attention to the ingredients rather than the packaging. Some brands like to make claims without actually living up to them. Try to look for night creams with natural oils, retinol, or salicylic acid rather than ones with parabens and fragrances.
Estee Lauder NightWear Plus Anti-Oxidant Night Detox Crème is perfect for all skin types; it’s lightweight and refreshing. This night cream works to reduce uneven skin tone, age spots, and enlarged pores. It also works really well at giving men and women smoother, fresher-feeling skin. This night cream was designed with anti-oxidant protection and visible age prevention in addition to treating dryness and enlarged pores. Whether you have oily or extra dry skin, you won’t want to stop using this cucumber-scented anti-oxidant night cream. While it’s more expensive than something you’d find at the drug store, there are definitely pricier night creams out there that don’t work half as well as this one does (or feel as good). The price is $55 for a 1.75-ounce jar.
L'Oreal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Day/Night Cream is a non-greasy cream that can be used both day and night. For men and women with extra dry skin, this lightweight night cream provides deep hydration. While there really isn’t much else it does in terms of decreasing wrinkles or fine lines, it does prevent irritation and even heal dry, cracked skin—for your face, neck, and chest. This day and night cream should be something you add to your nightly routine to keep your skin irritation-free and feeling moist. For an effective night cream (especially one that you can use both day and night), the $30 price on this isn’t bad.
Korres Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial works to nourish, moisturize, and awaken users’ skin, never over drying or leaving a greasy mess. It’s so lightweight even the oiliest skin types can use this stuff. This night cream feels like a weightless soufflé of yogurt. Super-charged proteins melt into your skin and work overnight at hydrating. This ultra-hydrating facial-in-a-jar contains a Greek yogurt concentrate with two and a half times the protein content of regular yogurt, and works overnight to provide skin with intense moisturization and nourishment to create a smooth, even skin. You will wake up to noticeable improvements in skin texture and more moisturized, refreshed skin. As a bonus, this product contains 95 percent natural ingredients and is cruelty-free. The price is $46 for a 1.35 ounce jar.
Applying night cream may seem like common sense, however there is actually a right way to do it. The first thing is to always make sure your hands are clean. This means when you get out of the shower, don’t touch anything else beforehand. Using a small amount of cream, start in the center of your face and move outwards. Too much night cream will end up clogging your pores and leave your skin looking greasy. A quarter-sized dollop is the perfect amount. Swirl your cream in using your ring fingers making circular motions. The ring fingers use the least amount of pressure, which will prevent damaging your delicate facial skin. Don’t forget to apply night cream to your neck and décolletage. These areas show aging first so it’s important to keep them moisturized, too. Be sure to follow the same method from above.
At night, obviously. But make sure to prep your skin just before bed. Your skin will have the same benefits, whether you apply product at 9 p.m. or 1 a.m. So the exact time isn’t a factor.
For anti aging, the best night cream for men (and a best seller), is the one by Kleem Organics. This night cream’s formula features only natural ingredients including 2.5% retinol, Vitamin E, green team, and jojoba oil. And, it doesn’t have any parabens or alcohol in it, which feels good, too. This night cream was made to give guys firmer, more toned skin. This stuff also helps minimize pore size and even skin tone. Men everywhere love it. The price is $49 a jar but you can typically find this cream on sale.
