  • Uses regular trash bags
  • Holds approximately 30 diapers
  • User-friendly design

Compatible with 13-gallon trash bags, eliminating the need to buy special liners. Simple design makes it easy to operate when you’re in desperate need of sleep.

Its low height requires constant bending, especially if you’re tall. Like the Diaper Genie Complete, sometimes diapers get stuck and have to be pushed through by hand.

Odor Absorbency: The Diaper Champ Deluxe locks in odors whether you use trash bags or Diaper Champ refills. For the best level of odor protection, use the refills designed specifically for this pail.

Ease of Use: Parents say it’s easy to open, close, and refill this affordable diaper pail, even though they wish it wasn’t so close to the ground. You can use this pail for cloth or disposable diapers.

Features: An easy-to-grip grey handle gives you access to the interior of this diaper pail. Cloth-diapering moms and dads like that you can use this pail as a wet or dry bucket for nondisposable diapers.

Price: Expect to dole out around $35, a price that falls on the lower end of our best diaper pails list, for this simple diaper disposal system. The fact that you can use regular trash bags instead of custom-designed refills may help reduce your long-term expenses for this pail.

Best Diaper Pail Overall

Why People Love it

  • More features than the regular Munchkin pail, such as a foot pedal (yes, this brand is so popular with parents that we decided to mention it twice on our list!)
  • Compatible with multiple refill systems
  • Sleek, modern design

An out-of-sight unlock button below the lid keeps energetic toddlers out of the pail. The front swings open so you can easily replace bags or clean the diaper disposal container. And let’s not forget about the pail’s beloved foot pedal.

Priced higher than most other diaper pails, although the price is warranted. Some parents report that they have to squish larger diapers through the opening by hand so they don’t get trapped.

Odor Absorbency: Neutralize the foul stench of soiled diapers with this odor-fighting diaper pail. It boasts a built-in Arm and Hammer baking soda dispenser with a soothing lavender scent, and some parents claim the pleasant aroma helps their little ones sleep peacefully. A patent-protected, self-sealing design unlike any of the other pails we tested keeps odors from migrating through your home.

Ease of Use: A quick tap of the foot is all it takes to open the top of this popular diaper pail when it’s time to get rid of a stinky diaper. Maybe we’re just germaphobes, but we love how we don’t have to open the lid with our hands. At nearly 28 inches high, this pail is taller than the regular Munchkin pail and many of the other pails on our list - which is great news for dads with aching backs or mamas recovering from c-sections.

Features: The Munchkin Step has a unique design that works with both snap-and-seal bags and refill rings. Remove your foot from the pedal to activate the self-sealing liner system and keep your home smelling fresh. Although the company doesn’t advertise this pail as waterproof, some users claim it holds up well in the backyard or garage for doggy doo doo disposal.

Price: With the exception of the Ubbi, the Munchkin Step diaper pail is the most expensive item on our list - but it’s worth every penny! Expect to spend between $70 and $90 on this top-rated diaper pail.

Why People Love it

  • High height helps eliminate pain from bending during disposal
  • Simple liner installation
  • Available in multiple colors to match your baby’s nursery

A built-in carbon filter traps odors inside of the diaper pail. The company revamped this classic pail to include a front-tilt option for easy liner removal.

Sometimes the narrow slot forces you to push poopy diapers through by hand, but you can prevent squish-induced messes by sealing diapers tightly. Also, the dual trap door occasionally sticks.

Odor Absorbency: An innovative Air-Tite clamp and Ultimate Odor Lock system keeps odors from escaping after you dispose of a dirty diaper. Built-in filters made of activated carbon absorb unpleasant odors.

Ease of Use: Press the foot pedal and place soiled diapers inside of the Diaper Genie Complete. A handy cutting attachment removes a section from the continuous bag when you’re ready to take out the trash.

Features: This diaper pail contains many of the basic features found on higher-priced models, including a foot pedal, easy-empty bin, and odor control system.

Price: The Playtex Diaper Genie Complete costs around $30, making it the cheapest diaper pail on our list. Don't worry, though - it still gets the job done.

Best Luxury Diaper Pail

Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail

Best Luxury Diaper Pail: Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail

89 % User Score

Why People Love it

  • Stainless steel repels odors and withstands wear and tear
  • More than 10 different colors to choose from
  • Childproof lock keeps curious kiddos from prying open the lid

The Ubbi doesn’t require special bags or liners. Its stainless steel design doesn’t absorb odors the way plastic does.

The absence of a foot pedal is practically the only complaint parents have about this high-end diaper pail. A handful of parents warn that overly full bags tend to get caught on the pail’s inner rung, but the company says it updated its bag holder design to prevent this issue.

Odor Absorbency: Stainless steel construction gives this pail a contemporary look, but it also helps it trap nasty odors before they have a chance to circulate through your little one’s room. Numerous parents say the only time they notice a bad smell from the Ubbi diaper pail is when they first open it - if at all. Several reviewers say they’ve used the same pail for years with no odor issues.

Ease of Use: A flip of the lid’s slider is all it takes to open this Ubbi diaper pail, although some parents lament that a foot pedal would be an improvement. Adding new bags is a simple task because this versatile diaper pail is compatible with cloth liner bags, regular trash bags, and Ubbi plastic bags.

Features: Resilient rubber seals help this stainless steel diaper pail trap odors. A child-resistant safety lock prevents tiny fingers from getting smashed during an attempted diaper-digging adventure. An internal ring holds your bag firmly in place as it supports the weight of up to 35 soiled diapers.

Price: With a price that averages around $80, the Ubbi is tied for the most expensive diaper pail on our list - at least when it comes to upfront costs. However, you don’t have to buy special dispensers or bags for this diaper disposal system, so you’ll probably save plenty of money over the years.

92 % Editor Score
93 % User Score

Why People Love it

  • Easily fits in small spaces
  • Versatile design accommodates cloth or disposable diapers
  • Transforms into a regular trash can when you no longer need a diaper pail

The Diaper Dekor Classic has a lower price tag than other models from the same manufacturer. Its compact size is ideal for shared bedrooms and small apartments.

Some users claim this pail absorbs the odor of soiled newborn diapers better than the stench of toddler diapers. Installing the bags also requires somewhat of a learning curve.

Odor Absorbency: The Diaper Dekor Classic is made of ABS plastic, which repels odors better than numerous other types of plastic. That means your diaper pail traps odors without leaving behind a lingering stench after you remove the dirty diapers. A rubber-seal lid and two handy trap doors help lock odors inside of the diaper trash can.

Ease of Use: Parents rave about the hands-free design of this diaper pail. A press of the foot pedal reveals a spacious opening where you can quickly toss in smelly diapers.

Features: Versatile diaper pail suitable for cloth diapers, disposable diapers, adult diapers, and pet litter. Protect your little explorer from pail-induced injuries by activating the concealed lockout feature. A removable insert lets you convert this pail into a regular trash can.

Price: Buying the Diaper Dekor won’t set you back too much, as the average price seems to be around $35 to $40. It isn’t the cheapest pail on our list, but it doesn’t cost much more than our most budget-friendly pail.

Best Diaper Pail for Odor Control

Munchkin Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail

Best Diaper Pail for Odor Control: Munchkin Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail
414 Bought
98 % Editor Score
96 % User Score

Why People Love it

  • Baking soda dispenser neutralizes unpleasant smells
  • Classic look
  • Self-sealing system

A practical baking soda dispenser sprinkles a bit of odor-fighting powder each time you put a soiled diaper in the container. No measuring, stretching, or cutting bags.

Unlike the diaper pails that work well with trash bags, this Munchkin diaper pail requires special bags. Additionally, there’s no foot pedal, so you have to open the lid by hand.

Odor Absorbency: Several parenting blogs, including Lucie’s List and reviewers on BabyCenter, praise the impressive odor control of this diaper pail. A built-in baking soda dispenser releases powder when you throw away a diaper, which is a feature we’ve only seen on Munchkin diaper pails. A laboratory test ranked Munchkin at the top of the diaper pail market.

Ease of Use: Caretakers say it’s a cinch to use this Munchkin diaper pail, and we agree. We’ll admit we were surprised how easy it is to operate since it doesn’t have a foot pedal. Replacing the baking soda dispenser is also simple.

Features: The Arm and Hammer baking soda dispenser, which neutralizes odors by sprinkling soiled diapers with powder, is this diaper pail’s most well-known feature. Other features include the single-handed operation, which is great when you’re holding a baby, and the self-sealing system that traps unpleasant odors.

Price: The Munchkin Arm and Hammer diaper pail is a moderately priced diaper disposal system that costs around $50. Expect to shell out extra cash for custom liners and baking soda dispensers, too.

  • A diaper pail isn’t an absolute necessity. It’s true that you can use a regular trash can in your nursery. But in all honesty, you might find yourself breathing through your mouth rather than your nose. If you want to truly minimize the smell of dirty <a , you have two options. The first is to run every used diaper to an outside trash can. And that can get old, real fast - especially in the middle of the night. Or, you can use a diaper pail.
