Women aren't supposed to be hairy. At least that's the message we receive every day from the moment puberty sets in.

The hair on your head is good; so are eyebrows. Any other hair on your face or neck is bad. The hair on your arms is acceptable, as long as it doesn't look like you're wearing a sweater. But, you're not supposed to have hair in your armpits, on your back, your belly, and definitely not your legs! Hair in those places suggests you're a lazy groomer and that doesn't bode well for potential relationships.

And what about the hair down there?

You know what we mean, even if we discreetly call it a bikini line. Everyone (without alopecia totalis) has pubic hair once they hit that special (and completely embarrassing) phase known as puberty.

Believe it or not, pubic hair has a purpose beyond demonstrating the age of sexual maturity. Public hair protects against viruses and diseases. Even surgeons have discovered that leaving this hair in place during operations is more beneficial than shaving it. Your pubic hair is also there to prevent skin irritations caused by friction.

However:

We understand that you'll remove whatever hair you want for vanity purposes. And regardless of the natural state of our bodies and the hair on it, we know you want to get rid of most of it - and you'll go to great lengths to do so. That's nothing new.

Even the ancient Egyptians shaved their pubes

Since shaving is such a bore...

At some point, you're going to turn to facial hair removal cream or pubic hair removal cream. After all, that Veet hair removal cream works ever so well on your legs, doesn't it?

So what transforms a product into the best hair removal cream out there? In the thirty odd hours we spent narrowing this list down to the top five products, we considered several factors so you can compare according to what matters most to you.

And now... on to the best hair removal cream products on the market. Just remember... you don't have to remove your pubic hair - no matter what popular media would have you believe. Just saying...

Best Smelling Women’s Hair Removal Cream

Why People Love it

  • Doesn't burn or irritate the skin
  • Works quickly
  • Easy to apply and use

This is a new facial hair removal formula from Sally Hansen; it has a much nicer, cleaner smelling scent to it. You'll also notice that it's pumped full of Vitamin E to soothe your skin.

Most reviewers don't experience an issue with irritation, but you may find it happens if you leave this product on for longer than five minutes.

Details

If you have unwanted facial hair and you can't possibly stomach the strong smells of other hair removal creams, this is the product you need to try. It comes with its own bonus lotion which should be applied to the area immediately after rinsing the cream from your face. This helps skin to cope with the sincerely powerful ingredients you've just applied. We're also big fans of the extracts which prevent hair growth. You don't get massive quantities of them, but enough that you may notice slowed growth. That's always nice, isn't it?

Ingredients: You'll find a combination of Calcium Thioglycolate and Potassium Hydroxide. Okay, that's not all you'll find, but those are the powerful ingredients inside. Interestingly, you'll also find Willow Herb and Pumpkin Seed extracts; those are known to prevent hair regrowth which means you'll need to use this product less frequently than others.

How to use it: Users need to apply this cream with their fingers in a thick layer without working it in the skin. After three minutes, check to see whether hair comes off quickly. It's so powerful, though, that you don't want to give it more than five minutes. A timer will save you from immense pain. Then apply the enclosed lotion; it's designed to strengthen your skin and reduce irritation.

Who can use it? This is designed for women and men may not enjoy using it.

Where can you use it? Apply this hair removal cream to your upper lip and jawline. You could test in other areas, but other products are likely to be more effective off the face.

Scent: Of all the hair removal creams you will find for any part of the body, this one has to smell the best. We're not saying it smells like perfume, but the vanilla fragrance is nowhere near as medicinally strong as other products.

Will it break the bank? The MSRP is close to $10 for a pack which includes two ounces of hair removal cream and the bonus lotion. But, you'll probably pay something closer to $5 for the pack. That's $2.50 per ounce... not including the lotion. Score.

Why People Love it

  • No skin irritation
  • Leaves your skin feeling smooth
  • Easy to use and super effective

This super affordable product leaves skin hair-free much longer than shaving. You'll also notice a difference in the softness and smoothness of your skin.

It may be a terrific price, but you'll need to pay attention to the packaging. The bottle isn't as resilient as you may like; handle with care.

Details

There are some things that we absolutely love about this hair removal cream for women. One is, quite obviously, the price. Another is the fact that it is designed for use on the bikini line. The one thing we absolutely detest about it is the smell. You will definitely smell it and you won't like it. That and the packaging are the biggest drawbacks to this product. And we feel it's necessary to warn you that this is applied to dampened rather than dry skin.

Ingredients: Yep, there are some Thioglycolates in here - a couple of them (though none are Potassium). All in all, though, this hair removal cream for women has a simple ingredient list. On the calming side, you'll find aloe and cucumber. Also Vitamin C, which helps protect and strengthen skin.

How to use it: Unlike many hair removal products, you're supposed to dampen your skin before applying Gigi. After dampening, apply the cream in a thick layer without rubbing in. Do a spot check after five minutes. If the hair comes off quickly, then remove the rest of the cream with a damp cloth. Whatever you do, get this cream off your skin within eight minutes.

Who can use it? The manufacturer recommends this for women, but men have also used and reviewed it with positive results.

Where can you use it? Get ready to use this just about anywhere on your body except your face. Gigi suggests using it on the bikini line, but you should absolutely do a patch test and be careful of using too close to the goods (front and back). Patch test... patch test... patch test...

Scent: Absolutely horrid. If you love the way this hair removal cream works, you'll need to get used to that.

Will it break the bank? You'll pay around $6 for eight ounces. Yep, that's approximately 75 cents per ounce. That's a steal.

Best Women’s Hair Removal Cream for Fast Grooming

Why People Love it

  • Works effectively on coarse, dark hair
  • No skin reactions or irritations
  • Quick and easy to use

The folks at Avon have long been committed to making women look their best without spending a fortune of time or money. They've done it again with this hair removal cream; it works in as little as two and a half minutes!

The manufacturer says not to use this on your face. While some reviewers have tried it, the strong smell may put you off the idea.

Details

When you thought you had hours more until leaving the house and left all your grooming to the last minute, this is the sort of product you want to have on hand. You may find the hairs from your legs and arms disappearing in as little as two minutes. Yes, that means it's STRONG - so be careful. Luckily, the folks at Avon have pumped every bottle full of soothing ingredients to keep your skin happy. We're also smitten with the price; if only it would handle the hair on your face as well. If it did everything, this would be our top pick.

Ingredients: Inside of every container you'll find a wealth of moisturizing ingredients. That includes Shea Butter, Meadowfoam Oil, and more. That's in addition to the Cherry Blossom used for fragrance and, of course, the Potassium Thioglycolate as the active ingredient.

How to use it: Apply to clean, dry skin and work towards an even layer. After two and a half minutes, it's time for a test. Hairs should wipe off easily; if they don't then you can leave it as long as eight minutes. But, the manufacturer places a LOT of emphasis on removing this product from your skin within eight minutes. We wouldn't test that.

Who can use it? This particular cream is designed for women to use. Men could get away with this but probably should look elsewhere... unless they have seriously dry skin.

Where can you use it? Women are advised not to use this on their face; it's too strong for the skin in this area. And, if you really want to try it along the bikini line, you will need to take the patch test exceptionally seriously.

Scent: There's that light Cherry Blossom smell, but mostly this hair removal cream smells like the chemicals found inside. Fortunately, that disappears quickly.

Will it break the bank? You'll pay a little more than $12 for a two-pack of this Avon product. Considering that each tube contains over four ounces of hair removal cream, that's a little less than $1.50 per fluid ounce. Not bad at all. Frankly, that's quite a good price.

Best Women’s Facial Hair Removal Cream

Why People Love it

  • Super gentle; no skin irritations here
  • Effective hair removal product
  • Leaves skin looking vibrant and smooth

This facial hair removal cream for women is quick, gentle, and effective for most unwanted hair in this area. The formula makes use of Maple Honey to assist with moisture retention in the skin.

This does an incredible job on most unwanted facial hair, but it's not super effective on coarse hair. A stronger treatment may be needed.

Details

No matter how much we want to deny it, most women have some facial hair. And, its growth tends to pick up speed after menopause. Sigh... Fortunately, there are products like this one which will do a good job of removing unwanted hair from the upper lip, cheek, and jawline area. Now, this isn't the cheapest product, nor is it the best smelling. But, most users achieve excellent results - even on super sensitive skins. We think that's brilliant.

Ingredients: There's a rather long list of ingredients in this product, but no Potassium Thioglycolate, well not specifically. You'll find Potassium Thioglycolates of other natures. What you will find in this mix is Maple Honey, along with extracts from olives, cucumbers, papaya, and aloe. If a natural ingredient is soothing, it appears that they've thrown it in here.

How to use it: Start with clean dry skin. As with most facial hair removal creams, you'll want to apply this in a thick, even layer. Wait no more than four minutes before rinsing as thoroughly as you possibly can. Most users report needing to apply this hair removal cream every eight to ten days. That's three to four times in a month - and you probably don't want to overdo it.

Who can use it? This product is explicitly designed for women and seems to work remarkably well for post-menopausal women.

Where can you use it? As per the packaging and all instructions, you'll use this for the removal of unwanted facial hair. That doesn't mean that it won't work elsewhere (though the manufacturer isn't going to tell you that). It does mean, however, that you can't expect it to extract coarse arm hair as well as other products.

Scent: This is strong stuff; so when you're using this product you'll want to make sure a window is open - or at least the fans are on high and the door is open.

Will it break the bank? The single package includes one ounce of product for about $8. But, you'll pay $14 for three tubes. That's a little more affordable at a little more than $4.60 per fluid ounce. It's definitely not the cheapest product, but it's worth it for those that battle sensitive skins.

Why People Love it

  • There's no irritation with this gentle formula
  • Extremely effective
  • Leaves skin smooth

This specially designed formula offers men and women plenty of Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. They're the ingredients that maintain and restore your skin's natural hydration levels.

Sadly, this doesn't work terribly well on strong, thick hair. You'll need to use too much of it for areas with extreme hair. Sorry.

Details

Not all hair removal creams can be used by everybody or everywhere. Really, you want to double check before you apply any hair removal cream anywhere on your body. Luckily, this is one of those products that almost everyone agrees is rather gentle - no matter where you use it. That's just one of the reasons this is our top hair removal cream for men. We're sort of swooning over the price, the ease of use, and the non-offensive smell. You know... this hair removal cream from Veet is just sort of an all around winner.

Ingredients: The active ingredient in this hair removal cream is Potassium Thioglycolate. You'll also find Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. Your skin loves those ingredients, which maintain skin's natural softness. Combine all these ingredients and you've got a winning combination.

How to use it: This hair removal cream works quickly; you could be hair-free in as little as five minutes. It's truly an amazing combination of powerful and gentle hair removal. You must read the instructions before using (especially on those sensitive parts of your body), but you can use it as often as you feel the need. Luckily, it comes in a pump bottle with a spatula for easy application and removal. If you still need assistance on the process for the easiest and best hair removal for men, we urge you to take a look at this video. (You may notice this vlogger is as serious about patch tests as we are!)

Who can use it? Both men and women can use this product, which is a bonus. However, the bottle is deceptively feminine.

Where can you use it?  It's not recommended for use on your face, though plenty of men report using it for manscaping down there without any problems. That said, you should always do a patch test before embracing widespread application.

Scent: You aren't faced with an overpowering scent here. But, you can't expect a hair removal cream to smell particularly pleasant, can you?

Will it break the bank? This is super affordable. You should be able to get it for less than $8. Most users score this incredible product for under 67 cents per fluid ounce. Really, that's not bad at all.
