It’s great fun when you finally move into your college dorm.  But, you’ll soon realize there are a few things about home that you truly miss.  And, probably, you’ll notice the food first.  That’s because you’ve not got a pantry at your disposal 24/7 (and the dining halls usually have set hours).  Dorm room fridges and microwaves only go as far as the food you have to put in them.

That said, you should buy pounds of fresh fruit or cold cuts in bulk.  We do think you should opt for the healthier options whenever you can (because nothing is cooler than always being fit).  But, fresh foods go bad quickly, and you'll want to make sure you've always got something on hand.   And, there are a few lifesavers that you should always buy in bulk – including the college classics.  After all, education should be a tradition, even if you’re the first in your family.

Popcorn is one of the best snacks to buy in bulk (even after college). It soothes that craving for salty goodness and it packs away in a fraction of the space other bags of snacks would take. That, at there's something festive about popcorn, it tends to lift everyone's spirits and it will make you plenty of friends as you can always smell popcorn from a mile away.

Peanut butter is wildly sustaining and it goes with everything; think apples, chips, chocolate, and bread. And that's just the beginning. You can spread it on crackers or banana slices. This snack can double as a meal when you missing dining hall hours or you've got a long night ahead of you. Plus, now that it's your own bottle, you can finally scoop it right out of the jar with your finger.

Saltines can be a real life saver in a college dorm. Keeping bread can be problematic (unless you're quite addicted to it) as it tends to go moldy before you get around to it. But these crackers will last for a long time and serve (almost) the same purpose. Grab some packets of jelly from the cafeteria, use your personal stash of peanut butter or treat yourself to some crackers and cheese. These are always a win.

You know what a craving is, don't you? And, there's a strong chance you've craved each one of these chips at one point or another. Not only that, you've probably used these snacks to satisfy cravings that you've had for something else. You'll need to have a supply ready to satisfy any craving. Need we say more?

This is a time-honored college tradition. Call it a rite of passage, but you need to be able to say that you lived off little more than Ramen noodles for an entire semester. Of course, these have almost no nutrition, so we do recommend supplementing your Ramen intake with fresh fruit from the cafeteria, but.. you should always have a supply of these babies on hand.
